A recent article from the Colson Center inspired this post. You can read it here. In the article, the authors cite much research that shows health can be gained from living with purpose. (I suppose this post could qualify as “Deter” as well.) My mind kept thinking about the Bible verse that says physical training helps a little but godliness helps in every way (1 Timothy 4:8). Amazing how true the Bible is.
Finding purpose is one of the best things we can do. It must start with God. Honestly, finding purpose is very difficult. It has been my experience you truly have to seek and wait on the Lord. Sometimes you have to choose purpose when you do not know what God wants from you. I had a season like this working security for Portland Trailblazer games. I could not see my purpose so I chose to pray over the thousands of people who came through the doors I watched.
Today, take the first step to finding purpose – prayer. Choose to do something for God now. Have a good attitude waiting on the Lord. You may be helping your health along the way.
Application for fathers: find people to pray over in your work now. If unemployed, pray for the people you see when you look outside.
